2011 Soldiers Memorial

On Anzac day 2011 under near perfect conditions 52 riders turned out for the Soldiers Memorial.
The handicapper divided the field into 6 bunches with one lone limit rider Minya Lynch getting a 24 minute start on Scratch.
Under a sunny sky with little or no wind all bunches rode well, with scratch averageing over 44kmph, second scratch over 42 kmph and third scratch just under 42 kmph.

The middle markers were also able to hold good speed, with the 8 minute bunch picking up the 9min 30 second and forming a strong bunch of 19 riders, this bunch picked up the outmarkers and contested the win.
Dylan Linsay from Portland won the race in a good sprint finish with Dale Cummins coming second and Sean Angus from Mount Gambier coming 3rd.

A highlight of the race was 17 year old Darcey Wooley last years winner of the event picking up fastest time with a ride time of 56 minutes and 45 seconds in what must be a close to course record.

The Camperdown Classic

In Rainy but reduced wind conditions, the 4th annual Camperdown classic was run.
a total of 56 riders entered the event but 6 scratchings were recieved on raceday and a final field of 50 fronted the starter.
The handicappers had placed the field into 6 bunchesplus a lone limit rider. After the first 22 kms of the 63 km race the scratch bunch had made up just45 seconds on their 4 minute chase to second scratch. This second scratch bunch was flying and had made up 3mins on 3rd scratch and had them within thier grasp. On the completion of lap 2, there was an intermediate sprint and Michael Krybolder from the 17 minute bunch claimed that trophy.
Not long after that the3 bunches behind him, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th scratch bunches had combined and were motoring along for the overall win. On their wat Matt Lane took out the King of the Mountain "Preem" on Cobdens Cemetry Hill.
The race now was in 2 main bunches, with the large bunch swallowing up th outmarkers & the 8 man scratch bunch now down to 7riders because of their upped pace as they made their charge.. With the 3 laps of the 17kms circuit behind themthe last 2 climbs over Coxes & Menzies hills was all that was between them & the finishline. But it was these 2 hills that split the large leading bunchup, as some riders applied the pressure and caused many others to tail off.On the decent into Camperdown 3 riders were clear of approximately 7 others with the rest scattered into smaler bunches and singles. At the line it was youmg Lauchlin Nolte from Portland that took the win from the very experienced older rider Mark Winnen from Port Fairy With local Camperdown club president Shane West close behind in 3rd place.
The young rider 17 year old Darcey Wooley out classed district strongman Brendon Schultz (now Basedin Bendigo)by taking fastest time by just half a wheel on the line.
