The 2010 George Gill Casterton 40 was held on Sunday June 6th.
A field of 53 riders started the event with the field being divided into eight bunches by the Handicapper.
The conditions were ideal for the Outmarkers or middle markers to "Get up" with a slight head wind and tail wind home.
The limit Bunch with 5 riders left 25 minutes before the four Scratchmen, David Tozer, Brendon Schultz, Simon Walsh & Luke Aggett.
As the race developed it appeared it was going to be a backmarkers day, the 4 scratchmen picked up Block with ease, then caught the rest of the field with what looked to be relative ease as well, before cemetry hill on the home run Scratch had the task at hand.
Three of the scratchmen, Tozer Schultz and Aggett gained a small gap on the remainder of the field & were able to hold that gap to gain a convincing win.
David Tozer from Pt Fairy was the First & Fastest rider, followed closely by Brendon Schultz Ham. second & Luke Aggett Pt fairy 3rd.

The top ten in the Banks Thargo South West series has had quite a "Shake Up" after the Casterton 40, While earl from mt Gambier still holds a slight lead, that is all about to change after the long weekend.

Junior results for Casterton.
ReplyDeleteThe J15-17 division only had 3 brave riders willing to attack the 20km through the vally. With 2 scratch riders Sean Angus of My Gambier and Sam Lane of Warrnambool riding for Port Fairy. Joshuah Belleville from Macarthur also riding for Port Fairy, off 4.30 minutes.
Sean Angus took a convincing fist and fastest in a time of 33.22. Unfortunatly Sam Lane punctured therefore puting him out of contention for a place. Sam still however has enough points to keep the leaders jersey for the next race. Joshuah Belleville took 2nd place.
The J11-13 race had 6 riders which is great to see for this age group.
We saw a win for Bailey Belleville of Macarthur riding for Port Fairy in a race time of 20.13. He was closely followed by scratch rider Ashleigh Hocking of Warrnambool riding for Camperdown, she took 2nd and fastest in a race time of 18.33. Third place went to Liam Kavanagh of Hamilton, followed by Lochie Bosch of Coleraine racing for Hamilton. In 5th & 6th place we had the McLaren kids from Hamilton in their first road race ever- Eliza Mclaren came across the line just before her brother Brent. Well done guys GREAT RACING.
